Walking the library instead of looking online..My Finds!!

Tasmania has a very good library system considering the size of our state. I have used it regularly over the years but mainly from my home computer. I reserve books and I receive an email when they are to be picked up.

Reading Library Loot in the blogs I follow has truly inspired me to go into the building and spend some time looking through the shelves.

As I have decided to follow along and join in with the blogger's Library Loot I made a special trip into the library today to get started. But what to pick? I am such an organised reader. Always have my list. But today I decided to get random and see what happens. This is the result.

As I am besotted by all things Penguin I decided to walk down the shelves and pick up the first two Penguin books I came upon. The two I picked could not be further apart in content and style I am sure.

The first Penguin chosen was The Darling Buds of May. Wasn't that some old timey t.v. show?  Looks very silly but could be fun.

The second Penguin looks like I blurred the cover but the cover really looks like this. It is a Penguin Classic: The Lost Estate (Le Grand Meaulnes) Alain Fournier. It isn't appealing at the moment but then I am easily surprised.

I then decided to go to the non fiction shelves and see if there were any travel books related to South America as my husband and I will be going there in August for 5 weeks. I will even see if I can find some old Penguin books while I am there but no idea if I will or not.

Travellin Penguin

The other books were two books I read reviews of in other blogs that sounded very good and so I thought I'd have a read myself.  It is fun to see the enthusiasm or disappointment of others' reviews of the books they stumble across. Both books, A Kind Man by Susan Hill and Call the Midwife by Jennifer Worth were well reviewed on the blogs I read. (sorry cannot remember which blog was which).
Later: I read Susan Hill's book this evening and really enjoyed it though the storyline of curing someone with their body has been done before in a very different way by Stephen King in The Green Mile. I really felt for Eve's sister, Miriam and I wanted to shake her for being so complacent with her horrible husband and continuing to have so many children but I am sure these things happen. Although much of the story was quite predictable I enjoyed her puttering around her cottage and descriptions of her garden, birds and her chickens. Definitely an enjoyable and curious evening of reading.




 This one, Tales from the Fast Trains is one that I saw on the shelf that simply appealed to me. Stories of fast trains in various countries. I always enjoy good travel writing. I guess I found quite an eclectic collection today.

So now I guess the real fun begins as I turn off the computer,  sit down and get reading!! Thanks for the inspiration.
